Bodrog Borműhely ‘Lapis’
Tokaji, Hungary 2015
Hungarian wine is in mid-renaissance and János Hajduz and Krisztián Farkas of Bodrog Borműhely (or “Bodrog wine(bor) workshop) continue to make their mark by maintaining tiny parcels of vineyards in historically great sites and making pure and impossibly complex dry white wines. The Lapis Vineyard sits 155m up above the Bodrog River and in a breezy spot, making dry wines possible as the locally famous Botrytis can be kept in check. The hard clay and volcanic tufa soils are enough to make viticulturists throughout the world envious and the quality of this wine more than does such an amazing growing site justice.
