Champagne Laherte-Frères Blanc de Blancs / Brut Nature
Aurélien Laherte is a seventh generation grower and makes his wines to show the distinct character of the land. Aurélien believes the diverse mix of soil composition here is the key as Coteaux Sud d’Epernay falls right between the Côte des Blancs and the Vallée de la Marne, providing the best of both worlds for his fruit.
Bracing and bright with key lime, young mango, smoky flint and a bit of uncooked dough combined with all the chalky minerality you could ever desire. Brut Nature (zero dosage, no sugar added) wines became all the rage for stretch there as people, myself included, just couldn’t get enough of that intense acidity. That said, there are some wines in this category that seem to showcase the ability to strip the enamel off your teeth, but are unfortunately lacking in much else. Laherte Frères is delightfully balanced with enough ripeness and complexity that create plenty of roundness and fruit driven texture to keep all that ripping acidity well in check.
