Domaine de Chevillard
Apremont, Savoie, France 2016, Organic
At the heart of the Savoie in St. Pierre d’Albigny, 350m high, Matthieu Goury is a young local who has put his best foot forward with this inaugural vintage of Domaine de Chevillard. Question is… Where does he go from here? There are a very small number of epic and, consequently, well sought after wines from this stunning region of France and you can count this label at that level already without question. Matthieu’s approach is thoughtful and meticulous at every turn; minimal intervention, minimal use of SO2, and he even soft presses the wine with an old Coquillard press from Champagne that he’s refurbished. If you, like me, have always fantasized that the Jacquère grape grown on alpine limestone has the potential to be something stratospherically great, well, buckle your seatbelt kids.
