Ryme ‘Crackling’ Carignane
Testa Vineyard, Mendocino, California 2018
If you’ve gotten adventurous and tried a number of sparkling red wines in your life, I’m sure you’ll agree that it’s not easy to find one you truly love. Release the Cracklin! This is just popping with Christmas spices and saturated with blood oranges and blackberries. Vibrant and alive in the glass, the bubbles just scream for festivities of any kind. I especially love the ripeness and slightly bitter tannin balancing act that the wine pulls off. It also has so many tertiary flavors that it reminds me of the best* Sangria you’ve ever had. (*Note: I’ve never had a Sangria as good as this.) So there you go, it’s the perfect excuse to NOT drink Sangria and to avoid the consequences, like headaches and regret, that so often come with it.
Megan and Ryan, Ryan and Megan. Either way, these two are an incredible team. Their primary focus is working with Seven Percent grapes e.g. Aglianico, Ribolla Gialla, Vermentino, Cab Franc. They met working a vintage in Australia and they’re kinda the cutest dang winemaking couple there is. Megan’s background as a Sommelier is the likely driving culprit for their desire to continue exploring different grape varieties, but they are both equally curious and equally talented haven’t made a wine yet that has been anything but delicious. This is only the second vintage of their Crackling Carignan and they make a Crackling Vermentino as well that’s just as delightful.
